No. Just NO.

When daughterling went off to college, we promised her that her sister would NOT take over her room until January, thinking that she'd be home for the holidays and would like to be in the comfort of her own room.

Well, as you all know, January is here and daughterling #2 has been planning her new room for months now.  We completed her new paint job on New Years Day, and now she's looking for a new comforter.  Can't say I blame her after what the dog did to her old one. (don't ask...but 'accident' doesn't begin to cover the destruction).

So, bargain hunter that I am, I have been scouring the internet looking for a good deal on a stylish comforter.  In the process I found this monstrosity.  I can't even imagine what kind of room / home where this would fit in.  Doesn't it look a bit like an 80's prom dress exploded?

52 Weeks of Kindness - 51 & 52

Well, 2013 is over, but I fully intend to continue with the random acts of kindness. It's amazing how the universe gives things back -- and in the end I got the biggest gift of all.  Total strangers stepped up to the plate and did something amazing for someone close to me.  I'm truly and utterly speechless to witness such generosity of spirit being unleashed on someone I care about. If my acts of kindness brought even a tenth of the warm fuzzy feelings to others, this resolution has been a smashing success!

Without further ado, here are my final acts of kindness:

Week 51
Every other weekend (and every other holiday) I get up at the butt-crack of dawn and go to the courthouse to process the arrest reports in preparation for their initial court appearance.  First stop on these mornings is the jail to pick up the list of people who are still in-custody. I had Christmas morning duty this year, so I brought a little gift bag with trinkets (hand sanitizer, lip balm, etc) for the office girls.  I can't even begin to imagine what they have to deal with each shift.

Week 52
I had planned to go out with a bang - last act of the year should have been something big and noteable.  I'd toyed with several ideas, but was leaning toward "seeding" the machines at a laundromat with quarters and leaving a basket of Tide Pods for people.  Will still probably go do this at some point, but the weatherman kept warning we were going to get a snowstorm, and I'm a wimp and don't want to go venture out in the weather unless I have to, so I ended on more of a sigh instead of a bang.  I took the $10 I'd been planning to spend for quarters and stuck it inside a coffee cup at the convenience store.  Yes, I've done this before -- but only with $1-2.
