Deal with the Universe

I scheduled this the other night and somehow blogger decided to post it right away. Sorry for the confusion if any of you stumbled across it prematurely. Let's give it another shot:

I've been thinking about my Deal with the Universe lately.  You know, what I'm promising to do when I get an agent or when my book sells.  Yeah, it's a little premature since I'm still writing the damn thing, but I'm envisioning a series of deals to lure me through the whole painful process:

When I finish my book, I will ....
When I get an agent, I will....
When my book sells, I will....
When my book sells X copies, I will....

It's usually something outrageous that will somehow tempt the Fates to call my bluff.  I'm not sure what my deal is going to be yet. I'm having trouble of thinking of anything big enough, so I'm inviting you to share YOUR deal with the universe and maybe it will inspire me.  Or you can leave a dare and maybe I'll accept the challenge.

When my book sells x copies I will buy a modest little cottage on a lake complete with a stone fireplace, built-in bookcases and a kitchen big enough to hold a table for 12 plus have room to bake all the goodies for my tea room. I will write, create and grow good things to eat in my little garden. I will buy a piano and learn how to play.

When I sell my book I plan on announcing it to the world, grabbing champagne to celebrate and eventually when I sell x copies I'll buy myself a much deserved MAC.

That is all.

Mine was to donate to the local rape crisis center (since my book was about a girl dealing with rape). But then I did that anyway, so now I have no one deals to make with the universe. Oh well!

Ugh...is this kind of like the deal I made with God when I wanted a doll house for christmas!? I just remember saying 'Dear God, if I get a dollhouse I promise to be very good. Not to pull my sister's hair. Not to lie or swear....'

If it is I guess it'd go something like:

'Dear Universe- if I get an agent, I will write books that will make EVERYONE a better person and promot world peace...because, you know, young adult fiction can be very enlightening. *snort* And relaxing. If there aren't any sharp teeth or dead people turning up every thirty pages...'sigh'.'

When I get an agent/sell my book I hope and pray that it is enough to motivate me to keep me going while still working at my big girl job. It's tough balancing the two.

Hmmmm, I didn't even think of making a deal with the universe. Maybe that's what I'm missing.

I'm with Angela ... I hadn't even thought about it. I guess I figure making a deal won't up my chances? Hey, my glass is half-empty. LoL.

I should think about something outrageous! Like, if I get an agent I will do naked cartwheels! That's do-able. Weird, but do-able. :o)

My answers to all those questions are rewards. Some small rewards, some big. I like rewards, they're great motivators.

Can I sell my soul to the universe? JK

Okay, this sounds like I'm being silly, but it really is my goal.

When I catch my big break, I'm going to hire a professional organizer to help me purge all of my useless crap. Minimalism is where it's at.

Oh, and move out of Alaska to some place more civilized.

Those are awesome!
When I finish my book, I will start the next one (and not sit on the one I am working on while I query).
When I get an agent, I will do that happy dance, and cry a little.
When my book sells, I will put it as my picture on my facebook. So cool!
When my book sells X (a tragillion) I will...I don't know. I haven't thought that far.

Okay, those were a lot harder than I thought.

I haven't really thought about it. I'm so focused on editing right now, I can't think past that stage to the hopeful goodness that may wait. :)

Ooooh noooo... I'm always afraid of these kind of things because I don't want to jinx it! :) But... if something nice happens (insert thought that's in my head here), I will buy ten cupcakes!

Oh goody, deals with the universe! My pattern is to listen to the universe and follow my heart, then wait for miracles to happen!

My first deal:

Once I get an agent, I will celebrate by sharing my super secret banana dessert recipe!

As far as getting an offer for pub - need to think on that one! =)
