I'm Old--and Probably Perverted.

(EDITED to remove all references to y - o  g - a - b - b - a YG2 from here on out. I'm being inundated with searches...and that's not my audience)

I'm not exactly sure at what age one becomes 'old'.  I've always kinda thought old was reserved for eighty-somethings.  And this is not merely a convenience since my 40th birthday is breathing down my neck.

Last Saturday, I made lunch (grilled cheese sandwiches...mmmmmm) and we were sitting on the couch munching away.  My son had commandeered the TV to Nick Jr.  A pretty typical day in our household.

YG2 was on.

I hate YG2.

I had to Google the character's names, so I might as well post a picture so those of you in the dark will see what I'm talking about:

One character was dirty and had to take a shower...so don't you know, his friends came by and they decided they'll all shower together...while singing about magic shampoo.  As we all do.

Apparently it's okay to shower with your friends.

And my thinking otherwise makes me a pervert.

At least that's what my daughter (15) says.  My kids LOVE this show.  I (as stated above) do not.

Which apparently means that at some point, while I was looking the other way, I got OLD.

Sigh.

But YG2 isn't the only show that drives me up the wall.  The Fresh Beat Band comes in a close second.  They make me want to tear my hair out.  I'm all for giving kids positive role models and all of that crap but these four friends are just a little too perky for my tastes.

Don't they remind you of the kids on Barney? Stepford children...all grown up.

*shudder*

They can't get these shows off the air fast enough for me.  But what do I know?  I'm just an old fuddy duddy!

For those of you who have kids, what shows would drive you batty?   For those of you who don't have kids...name any show you like...errrr, dislike.

YES!! I had to share this with my husband. I made him pause the Two Towers to read it. WE HATE YO GABBA GABBA!! And WHY does Little Bear never have on pants? HIs mother was dressed as a bear cub.
BUT - I LOVE, LOVE Phinneas and Ferb and we also the Backyardigans. I could do without everything else.
He He, shower together with magic shampoo...
Maybe I'll try that one later ;)

Haaa, those Gabba names are hilarious. Kids shows these days are so weird...

Well, we don't watch tv except from DVD's, but I can tell you that I feel this way about music. Music used to be about talent. Heck, the bands from the 60's were incredibly. Nowdays it seems all you need to do is have someone else write music for you and hire choreographers for dancing. Ugh.

Oh this made me giggle. It also made me wish I had magic shampoo. Kid's TV these days seems so flat and smooth because of (cheap) computer animation. And I don't think I'd like that Gabba programme either... although is it really much different from the Banana Splits Bunch?

Came by from KarenG's blog BBQ by the way!

I hate Spongebob, Teletubbies and several others like Suite Life, Hannah, the list goes on for quite some time.

Lol. Well, my leave the room list invloves all of the ridiculous Greek soaps/sitcoms, heck even the news. They're so melodramatic. I buy DVDs and watch the new on the Internet! :o)

My three-year-old niece absolutely adores Yo Gabba Gabba, and I'm pretty sure it's going to result in mid-adolescent counseling sessions. It looks like some strange, 1960's, psychodelic nightmare and don't even get me started on DJ Lance Rock, who is dubbed for American television, by the way. And could not one of the writers for Dora come up with any more lyrics for that stupid song than "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map"?!?! My kids will watch reruns of The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. :)

Old is something that is further away the closer we get ... And that's how it should be.

Dropping by from the bbq, and will be following from now on.

I hate the big brother, real world type of reality shows. Cooking reality and dancing with the stars is about it for me when it comes to reality. I am a movie person. Love those movie channels.

Thanks for stopping by my blog via Karen's bbq. Oh and you should have kept that bathroom cleaning info about your husband on the QT. Envy is seeping through my every pore!

Thank heavens I missed the Yo Gabba Gabba era! My kids currently watch all the shows in which teenagers can become "stars" -- Hannah Montana, iCarly, Victorious, Jonas Brothers, Sunny With a Chance, etc.

I will admit, that occasionally these shows have their entertaining moments, even if I don't approve of the "teenage star" cult.

The one show I have absolutely forbidden them to watch is Zack and Cody, in which kids live on a cruise ship and pal around with a brainless, selfish millionaire's daughter. Ugh.

Ha! I could have written this post!! Spongebob makes me want to burn things, or drain the ocean, or something. And Gabba? I'm convinced it is really designed for college kids. With the munchies, if you catch my drift.

I clicked over from KarenG's Labor Day party. Glad I came and I'm a follower now!

Don't you cringe at what Worldly Wonder might be the next big hit? Dora has always made me crazy ... everything THREE times. Aaarrgh!

Since you've read my post on freaky cartoons, you know what gets my goat. So instead of complaining about kids' shows that annoy me, I'll tell you what was my favorite (kids too old to watch it these day)...Arthur. Loved everything about it, except for the message it sent that it was all right for 3rd graders to wander around town alone. But I guess that's small town life, eh?

I'm sad to say I'd already witnessed Yo Gabba Gabba several times! That and the Wonder Pets are on my most annoying list. And of course, that just means my son loves them all the more! So count me in with the old!

BTW - left you a goodie at my blog today. ;-)

Make sure your kids are OUT of the room before playing:

My kids are all into the disney pre-teen shows. Ugh! I think I might want to watch Yo Gabba Gabba compared to that. Okay, probably not. =)

The Fairly Odd Parents...Bleh! This candy colored concoction is loud, rude, and frantically paced. My kids love it. I actually leave the room. Oy, the voices are screetching and annoying.

Love your take on Yo Gabba Gabba...my two-year-olds love it. My brother even bought them the CD so we can sing about fish and magic shampoo in the van...thanks bro. 0_0

Fun post...just what I needed.

No kids, but I do agree with you on these shows. They would drive me crazy. Most of the kids' shows I've seen lately aren't really funny to me so I guess as I've aged so as my humor. I long the days of Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry.

Gabba, Gabba sounds like a terrible show! I'm sure I wouldn't like it either. Kids shows today are all pretty close to garbage in my opinion. When I was a kid, I liked Captain Kangaroo, Captain Penny, The Little Rascals and Miss Barbara. I know, I'm old.

Nice to meet you through Karen's BBQ party. I tried leaving my book title at your link above, but there was no place for comments but this it it: "My Funny Dad, Harry." It is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

I am so with you, I am not a fan of Gabba at all, it's just... weird!! Caillou drives me nuts too, he teaches kids to *whine*. Ick! Anyway, stopping by from the BBQ to lend some support! I wish you the best, Janelle

Um.. I like Spongebob. A lot. I laugh my head off at Spongebob Squarepants. I'm laughing right now thinking of it. The movie's the best!

I have to say that I used to hate SpongeBob, but when I actually sat down and watched it, I became a convert. I'm not sure "old" is about what you don't like, but what you DO like. When you start flipping channels looking for Lawrence Welk, you've got something to worry about! :)

LTM said...

OK, we don't watch SpongeBob--it just hasn't been requested!--we DO watch Avatar (best kids show EVER! Damn you M. Night Shamalamasldfmasld!) And I actually really really enjoy Yo Gabba Gabba! Don't... don't ... don't bite your friends!

Good lesson for kids & adults!

But I've admitted on my post to being a techno nerd. I grew up late 80s and had an older gay brother, so I really didn't have a choice. I was forced to love Kraftwerk, New Order, Joy Division, etc. I KNOW, hold yer freakin tomatoes, they're not all gay bands. I'm just sayin. In So. La., late 80s they are. :D

good stuff. Have some ice... the best thing about KarenG's BBQ is I'm finally connecting w/some of you guys I've been SEEING for so long now. Have a good one~

I haven't seen this show...K is 14. Remember YOU ARE THE PARENT, you can turn off the TV or change the channel....I've been saying for years to K...(and she believe's it to be true) I'm not her friend I'm her Mother and I will treat her like she's my daughter until I decide she's old enough to be my friend...most likely she'll be about 30. It's working quite well so far.

Not sure where you all are because i haven't heard of most of the shows you mention (except Spongebob)but the show i can't stand is something with a character called Macka-Packa... I think the title of the show is "The ________ Garden", anyone heard of it? Childrens television today is attrocious! I don't even own a TV but still manage to see the crap at other peoples houses!
