Grab Your Tissues...AMAZING

This is an amazing video clip about an autistic girl who learns to communicate by typing.  There is so much we don't know about this disorder.  Just under 10 minutes, but it's very powerful.  I'll shush now.  If you don't have time now, come back later, it's soooo worth it.

FYI: I am outta town this weekend and will NOT have an internet connection.  Will catch up when I get back.

Oh.my.God. I'm having trouble typing through these tears. Carly's story is so awe-inspiring. And one reason I'm so profoundly touched by watching the video is a neighbor friend works with autistic children. She is not trained to do so, but is a paid volunteer in the public school system assigned to the special needs class. Her lack of compassion for her students has always struck me as sad, even when she's lamenting about the challenges. After all, she's the one in the bathroom, unable to stop a quick moving girl from smearing her feces. She's covered in bruises from the pinches and flailing arms of students she must restrain, lest they lash out at another student. But the coldness and distaste in her voice when she talks is heartbreaking. And now, after watching Carly's story, I wonder how many of her students are trapped in their bodies. Brilliant, funny, caring minds unable to express themselves. Some of them? All of them?

Thanks for sharing this, Vicki. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Darn it. I can barely see right now. Thanks a lot, Vicki! ;-) Seriously, great stuff. It's scary to think of how trapped she must have felt.

it's so wonderful she found a way to communicate! especially in a way that is easy for people to understand. i'm so excited to hear she is writing a novel! i hope she can be a voice for others like her, to help society better understand them. :) thanks for posting vicki this was not only inspiring and moving, but also fascinating! :)
